Monday November 25, 2013
Today it was a slow day, only one kid showed up with his mom and we had set up the tables for at least 3 families. So what we did was that we combined one separate class with our kid, so in the end it was 5 families.  The kids got to read a book and they got story time, 2 books were read to them in order to keep up with the schedule. When we got the class together me and this other volunteer cleaned up our room and headed down with the others. When it was time for the activity the kids had to fill out a "feather" and mention what they were thankful for, obviously the parents had to help them out to and we would put the feathers onto our turkey! We also made the kids play thanksgiving bingo and the kid I was helping was so excited that he did not make a single noise, it was a fun day!!

Today there was one more kid that showed up, so we worked with 3 kids. It was a slow day day we helped the kids do their homework and they had a practice test and we went to a healthy eating class. In the class the kids learned how much fat and sugar there is in the fast food they eat.  Except the kids were being too loud and we had to send them into another room to watch a movie, and the parents stayed in class and axtually saw how much the fast food/junk food has in fat, oil, and sugar there is involved. And how in drinks the coloring adds the color of juice. It was an intresting day for the parents and the kids got their practice too

Monday November 18,2013

Today was a normal day, the plans did change a little because we didn't take the kids to the healthy class. Instead we helped the kids improve their adding skills, but i see that when the kids get more nervous when they are sitting down with their parents and they are looking at them doing their homework. The kids are more advanced when the they are in front of the board and doing it themselves   then when they are with their parents. That's what I noticed that the kids tend to "forget" how to do their adding, but all in all it was a slow and productive day.

Wednesday November 13, 2013

Today was another day with the kids, but it feels that each week there are less families! Today only 2 kids showed up, we didn't do much because we had people come over and talk about how to prepare a healthy meal. We got together with another group and we all sat together with the families and the kids to help them understand that sugary cereals are not good for them. Since the kids were being too noisy we decided to take them into a separate room and have them do a different activity while their parents stayed and asked questions about how to keep their kids healthy. Next week the parents are going to learn about sugar and how much is in the typical cereal box at home, all in all it was a slow yet fact full day with the kids and their parents.

Wednesday November 6,2013

Today was another slow but fun time with the kids. Only 3 of the kids showed up with their parents. But it was fun because we showed the kids a new way to add numbers without getting confused by using their fingers. Even though the kids actually understand the meaning of adding when we are all working together when it comes to tests, they forget how they are suppose to do it. For the first time I actually got to tell the kids and their parents what the activity was going to be and show them how to do it. And the other news that i received today was that we might get new kids if they continue to miss days!! All in all it was a fun day with the kids.

Monday November 5,2013

Today was fun we came up with the activity of making the kids and their parents make like a life saver out of the edge of the paper plates and around it there will be their drawn out hand and what they are thankful for. Only 3 kids showed up and it felt weird (when the other kids show up we are always going back and forth, but this time we didn't have to because we had them all in just one table.) We did the basic things as the first time, write their objective on the board and have them follow the steps. I helped Ulises (one of the little kids) with his homework and practice his flash cards because I think they have a quiz on Wednesday. That was basically all we did today.

Wednesday october 30,2013

Today was the first day I worked with the kids. I can't explain how nervous I was to be with the little ones, but still I knew it couldn't be bad at all. It was alright, I know I could've done more and interact with them. The teacher who was in charge of the vroup told me to nust "jump in" and help them, but to be honest I didn't want them to think I was annoying. I'm working with 6 or 7 little kids, due to confidential purpose I can't tell how they all act. But since it was going to be Halloween I had to help the little kids and their parents make a "dirt cup" whick was basically pudding at the bottom smashed cookies and more pudding! I'm working with another girl although she is not doing it for any project she still volunteers there. I loved working with the little kids because I actually get to see how they act when they are doing homework compared to how they act when they are playing. Although I don't know what my next task will be I can't wait to work with them again.
